“Is emergency response the same as first aid?” It is one of the questions we are asked most often. The two are similar, but there are clear differences. In this article we set them side by side, so you know which course suits you.
Emergency response: focused on the workplace
Company emergency response is aimed specifically at emergencies at work. A responder learns life-saving skills, how to put out a small fire and how to evacuate a building. Emergency response is also a legal requirement for employers under the Working Conditions Act. The basic course normally takes one day.
First aid: broader and deeper
First aid goes further and wider than emergency response. You learn to give first aid for all kinds of injuries and situations — from fractures and burns to poisoning and first aid for children. First aid is valuable at work, but just as much at home, at the sports club or on the road. You finish with the recognised certificate from Het Oranje Kruis.

Which course suits you?
Do you have staff? Then emergency response is mandatory and the logical foundation. If you or your team want broader, deeper skills — at a school or association, for example — then first aid is a valuable addition. Organisations often combine the two.
